Vignesh S., OMS-III — Holiday 2020

He’s been nicknamed the gentle giant and after meeting 6’6” Vignesh, you’ll see why. His presence is striking, not because of his height, but because of his ability to make everyone in the room laugh (a self-proclaimed goal of his). After double majoring in Spanish and Neurobiology, touring South America alone for two months, and then moving to Miami, Vignesh started medical school at Nova Southeastern and is now in his third year, excited to take on the next challenge.

I HOPE WE CAN RISE FROM THE ASHES IN 2021 MORE THANKFUL AND WITH MORE ONENESS.

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF!

I was born in Washington D.C. to two happily married Indian immigrants. From an early age, I was always described as a gentle giant. I love being a goofball! To this day, my goal is trying to make everyone in the room laugh even a little bit! Growing up with a parent who travels a lot, I had the privilege to visit my homeland as well as many other countries around the world. If I had a superpower, it would be to speak every language fluently.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BE A DO?

My mom! She never had the opportunity to pursue medicine though she had the grades for it. Times were tough in India and she had to choose a different career because her parents couldn’t afford medical tuition. She always pushed me to be the best in whatever I do and inspired me to pursue a profession which both she and I love.

2020 HAS HAD A LOT OF CHALLENGES – WHAT HELPED YOU PERSONALLY GET THROUGH IT?

Trying to become the best version of myself. I had a lot of extra time so constantly trying to better myself. Started meditating, running a lot, eating clean, reconnecting with friends.

WHEN YOU LOOK FORWARD TO 2021, WHAT DO YOU FEEL MOST HOPEFUL ABOUT?

Having a global event like this was inevitable – if not 2020, then it would have happened at some point. Though media outlets love to portray the negative, people are coming together more than ever to help each other through it all. I hope we can rise from the ashes in 2021 more thankful and with more oneness as a people.
