It wasn’t lost on Scott, an Interventional Radiology Physician and Residency Director, that even though COVID-19 was a crisis for many and one of the most intense times of his career — he has been extremely lucky. Lucky both because he was deemed essential enough to continue working and because he’s had a platform where he can inspire, educate and reassure others in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout the past few months, Scott has realized that the most important thing in life is showing up.
IF YOU HAVE A TRUE PASSION FOR WHAT YOU DO, YOU WILL NEVER WORK A DAY IN YOUR LIFE.
WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE GIVING UP – IF YOU EVER FEEL THAT WAY – WHAT DO YOU DO TO RISE ABOVE?
Seeing the fighting spirit and the faith of my patients in the face of serious illness inspires me. I may be having a bad day or a tough run, but then I have a conversation with a patient about their faith, and my faith seems so small in comparison. My patients drive me to be a better doctor as well as a better person.
2020 HAS BEEN A TOUGH YEAR ACROSS THE BOARD – HOW ARE YOU TACKLING IT? WHAT HAS IT TAUGHT YOU?
While fighting on the frontline has been challenging, I feel fortunate to be in a position where my help and expertise is considered essential. There are millions of Americans who are wondering how they are going to pay rent or put food on the table, and I often think about them. 2020 has taught me that those of us in social media have a voice and we are in a unique position to be able to use it in a way that can help make positive change, whether by educating the public about COVID-19 or speaking up about racial injustice.
WHAT ATTRIBUTES DO YOU HAVE IN ABUNDANCE THAT HAVE ALLOWED YOU TO SUCCEED?
My patience and perseverance has allowed me to get to where I am today. Medical training is a marathon, not a sprint!
I BELIEVE THAT…life is not about what you accomplish for yourself, but what you do for others.
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN LIFE IS…just showing up. Especially on the days that you are not feeling it. Those are the moments where you grow the most.
