Jazmine K., PA-C — Holiday 2020

Originally on the pre-med track, Jazmine changed her path after joining a Pre-Med Honor Society and shadowing a PA. Witnessing the role of a PA was eye-opening for Jazmine and gave her confidence to reroute her career path. She hasn’t looked back! Now, Jazmine is a PA who specializes in neurology and aesthetics in Los Angeles, California. She also uses her blog and social media platform to inspire others in a multitude of ways, from dancing it out to encouraging thoughtful discussion around race and the Black Lives Matter movement.

HOW DO YOU START YOUR DAY?

By whisking some hot water and ceremonial grade matcha together for my morning cup of fuel. Blasting Cardi B or 2000’s hip hop in my car to get me pumped for the day.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BE A PA?

I was pre-med like many students. Joining a Pre-Med Honor Society and shadowing a PA inspired me to re-route my journey. My shadowing experiences were truly eye-opening and gave me confidence in my decision.

WHY DO YOU LOVE YOUR FIELD?

The field of neurology is vast and interconnected with psychology and psychiatry. The brain and nervous system are simply super rad! As a dancer, I revel in creating movement with my body. In Aesthetic Medicine, I enjoy the artistic nature of it all and it nourishes that part of my soul.

2020 HAD A LOT OF CHALLENGES – WHAT HELPED YOU PERSONALLY GET THROUGH IT?

Seeing my therapist through telehealth and journaling. My support systems: partner, friends and family. Checking in with my mental state a lot more this year and it’s helped with my anxiety. Sharing my experience on social media about my low points has been helpful to myself and others.

IF YOU COULD GIVE ADVICE TO YOUR PRE-2020 SELF, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY?

WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST INSPIRING PART OF THIS YEAR AND WHERE HAVE YOU FELT THE MOST POSITIVE GROWTH?

Seeing my peers, love ones and others taking a stance for the Black Lives Matter movement. Witnessing people from all walks of life coming together to protest peacefully and safely in the midst of a pandemic is remarkable.
