Global Brigades

Global Brigades’s mission is to help under-resourced communities resolve health and economic disparities. In February 2019, they, along with several sets of FIGS, traveled to Honduras.

We spoke with medical brigade president, Taylor, to get more details on their trip.

WHO WAS ON YOUR TEAM?

25 brigaders, 3 doctors, 4 dentists, 3 pharmacists, 2 ophthalmologists, 3 translators and 1 program coordinator

WHAT WAS THE MAIN GOAL OF THE MISSION?

To help under-resourced communities receive medical attention, help with construction of a water project and help four families receive eco stoves.

WHERE DID YOU TRAVEL?

Honduras — 2 days of medical clinic in Los Izotes, 1 day at medical clinic in La Chorrera, 1 water day at La Presa and 1 public health day in Cerro Bonito

WHAT WORK DID THE TEAM DO DURING THE MISSION?

We saw 735 patients in total. 113 also saw a dentist, 187 also saw the ophthalmologists and every patient also received three months worth of medication.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR OVERALL EXPERIENCE ON THIS TRIP.

It was completely amazing! This trip changed a lot of our brigaders’s perspectives on healthcare, public health, other cultures and more.

HOW DID FIGS HELP YOU ON YOUR JOURNEY?

Sharing the scrubs with the in-country doctors helped us build a connection. They really appreciated the scrub sets and really bonded with us because we showed we cared for them and the people of Honduras.

DESCRIBE YOUR TRIP IN THREE WORDS

Unforgettable, life-changing, empowering

Many medical professionals in resource-poor areas do not have access to basic medical supplies — including scrubs. Here at FIGS, we’ve built relationships with over sixty amazing organizations to make sure every doctor, nurse and technician has the workwear they need to protect themselves, their patients and provide the highest quality care possible, no matter their location or economic circumstance.
