VETERINARIANS HAVE THE POWER TO NOT JUST HELP ANIMALS, BUT ALSO PEOPLE THROUGH ANIMALS.

HOW DO YOU START YOUR DAY?

I generally start my day by waking up as late as possible, stretch for 10 mins, take my dog Henry for a walk around the yard, make coffee and a smoothie and then rush out the door to get to work just on time … I’m constantly asking myself why I don’t just wake up earlier.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BE A VETERINARIAN?

What inspired me to become a veterinarian, and more specifically a wildlife veterinarian, was a deep sense of wanting to give back and contribute towards something greater than myself. Veterinarians have the power to not just help animals, but also people through animals. We can fight for and work towards the conservation of species which benefits societies in general and the planet as a whole.

Nobody goes into veterinary medicine for the money, because there isn’t much! So my team is made up of wildlife enthusiasts who have chosen a field that they truly care about. And they choose this profession every day, even when we’re swamped and are getting on each other’s last nerve, because we are all working towards the same goal. It’s a certain quality of person who can work in wildlife medicine and rehabilitation!

IF YOU COULD GIVE ANY ADVICE TO YOUR PAST SELF, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY?

If I could give any advice to my past self it would be to invest in cryptocurrency! But also to trust the journey, the good and the bad. All of the struggles, heartbreaks and successes throughout our lives shape who we are today. And as much as I would like to warn my past self about this-or-that, going through all of those experiences has taught me many lessons, for which I am grateful. Trust the journey, young one.
